Leucovorin 50 mg Vial contains calcium folinate, a form of active folinic acid used in oncology and hematology. It helps reduce the toxic effects of methotrexate and enhances the action of fluoropyrimidines such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Supplied as an injectable vial for intravenous or intramuscular use, Leucovorin must be administered by qualified healthcare professionals.

Quantity

Leucovorin 50 mg Injection (Calcium Folinate) is a sterile injectable form of folinic acid used to support patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy or suffering from folate deficiency–related disorders.

Its primary function is to protect normal cells from the harmful effects of folic-acid-antagonist medications like methotrexate, while maintaining their anti-tumor efficacy.

Leucovorin injection is also used as a biochemical modulator in combination with 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) for the treatment of colorectal and other cancers, increasing therapeutic effectiveness.

Therapeutic Indications:

  • Methotrexate toxicity rescue and folinic acid supplementation
  • Adjunct therapy with 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in solid tumors
  • Folate deficiency or megaloblastic anemia when oral administration is not possible

Mechanism of Action:

Calcium folinate bypasses folate-antagonist blockade, replenishes reduced folate pools, and supports DNA synthesis and cellular recovery. It provides cellular protection and improves chemotherapy tolerance.

Form: 50 mg/5 mL vial (for IV or IM injection)
